Call for Papers
Students who would like to present their research on the 8th Conference for Student Research, may apply and submit a proposal within the frame of a Call for Papers (e. g. a short presentation or a poster). The deadline for submitting a proposal is 09 July 2023.
Who may submit a proposal?
All bachelor and master students from all over Germany and of all disciplines may submit a proposal, presenting their own research and the results obtained.
The student research may have been made in the frame of a lecture, a final thesis (bachelor or master thesis) or other student initiatives.
Proposals may be submitted by individuals, in tandems or in teams. However, a maximum of two students per proposal may be granted travel and accommodation costs.
What are possible proposals at the conference?
If you would like to submit a proposal you can choose between different formats. It is important that the student research may be presented convincingly. Thus, the format should match with the research project and the results obtained.
Short presentation
The student research can be presented in a short speech. The presentation should last about 10 to 15 minutes followed by a panel discussion. So, the maximum period of time is 20 minutes.
Poster
The student research may be presented in the format of a poster at the conference. There will be several sessions for poster presentations, with about 25 students presenting their posters at the same time. Posters have a fixed format (DIN A0, portrait format, running text ca. 25pt) and have to be printed and brought along by the speakers as it is common practice within the scientific community.
Media/ artistic/ creative proposal
The student research may be presented in the frame of a media, artistic, creative or artefact-based proposal. In the case of a speech the time limits for short presentations apply, i. e. 20 minutes in total (10 to 15 minutes presentation followed by a discussion). In the case of other forms of presentation the conditions for a poster presentation apply, i. e., a presentation cannot occupy more space than a mobile screen. Please note that local technical applications (e. g. video, audio) are not available. In such cases, please provide a printed QR-Code for mobile devices – similar to posters –. Please give a hint in the abstract of your submitted proposal, if you need tables or other furnishings for your presentation.
Workshop
The student research may be presented in a workshop. A workshop at the conference lasts 90 minutes in total. The workshop should address a problem, which comes up in the context of the student research. It should have a clear goal and invite to an interdisciplinary dialogue.
What is important to observe when submitting a proposal?
Please submit a short abstract to introduce your contribution (max. 2.500 digits including blanks). The following hints will give you a more detailed idea of what you should keep in mind when writing this abstract.
Specifically for short presentations, posters and for media/ artistic/ creative proposals
The abstract should clearly state the specific research question or topic, why the question or topic is relevant, what the schedule and design of the research project was like, which methodology has been used, which results have been obtained (or are expected) and what possible follow-up questions may arise from the student research project.
Specifically for workshops
The abstract should clearly state the topic of the workshop, why the problem is relevant, what the aim of the workshops is, how it may initiate an interdisciplinary dialogue, what the structure of the workshop is like and which methods will be used.
Relevant to all proposals
As the 8th Conference for Student Research – just like its predecessors – is interdisciplinary, the abstract should be written in a way that can be understood by people alien to the subject. It should become clear, which contribution the student research project can make to science or to societal challenges. Additionally, it would be desirable if the proposal would be accessable to a broader audience, i. e. of interest for other students or a public alien to the subject.
Formal hints: The abstract may have a maximum of 2.500 digits (including blanks). Literature and bibliographical references are not necessary.
How may proposals be submitted?
Proposals may be submitted via the registration plattform. This form includes details on the submitting person and the abstract on the student research project may be uploaded.
The abstract may be submitted in German or English. The deadline for submitting the proposal is 09 July 2023.
Questions on the submission of proposals will be dealt with in the FAQs on the Call for Papers, too.
