Hands-On Project: Research Models
The ISA-Center intends to make a small contribution to help students to deal openly with typical interdisciplinary challenges in research (or scientific work) in the future. The interdisciplinary exchange of experiences between students and scientists will be supported in two ways in order to achieve this:
Students of all semesters and courses of studies: In the Strategy-Stock Exchange, you can look at helpful strategies for scientific work or research of fellow students and contribute some yourselves. You thought something to be very difficult and demotivating in the beginning but have then noticed what is really important? Would you have liked to know earlier which ways of thinking and acting would have helped you on? Others are in the same situation. Share your insights. Information on participation
Scientists: In the section Voices from Science (see below on this page) scientists of the University of Hamburg address students. Here, you can share personal insights and views on science from your respective disciplinary perspective. Report why you are fascinated by researching or which particular challenges you face in your everyday research. Share informal knowledge and hints with students who are about to make their first own scientific experiences. Your contributions are very welcome. Contact( daria.paul"AT"uni-hamburg.de)
Rise to the Challenges – Together!
As a new beginner in science you must get a feeling for the strategies and inner attitude which is most helpful to you when researching. The practical knowledge of others can support this process considerably. However, it is usually transmitted rather informally. On the one hand by observing others in the same situation, on the other hand by exchange with other persons who have made these experiences already.
However: Not all students have the same access possibilities to science-related practical knowledge. There may be many different reasons. The students at the University of Hamburg have followed a variety of training paths and are of diverse origins. Additionally, it is not easy to thematize insecurities, especially in a surrounding where you are judged for your knowledge and achievements. This might create the impression that all fellow students supposedly face the requirements effortlessly.
In fact, research is a learning and a personal development process for all novices, in which you face many situations when you will not be able to proceed all at once and when you have to think of a strategy.
